Mulat: Cultivating Sociopolitical Consciousness Through Critical Lenses

Objectives

  • To uphold Pillar 4: Holistic Student Development and Engagement of PUP reform agenda which aims to empower students and young leaders for various academic mobility.

  • To create a space for the celebration of National Arts Month.

  • To develop an understanding of the fundamental principles of the education situation in the new normal, anatomy of Philippine politics, and the significance of the people’s power during the EDSA People Power Revolution.

  • To gain an appreciation of current political issues and concerns as well as their impact upon the contemporary political climate.

  • To foster critical thinking, equipping students with the analytical tools to approach the fundamental problems of political life.


Activity/Event Narrative

As a crucial response to put forward the major advocacy of SSC that is to heighten the sociopolitical consciousness of the student body, the SSC conducted this 3-day educational discussion series that tackle the Neoliberal Education Amidst Pandemic, Anatomy of Philippine Politics, and the Contextualization of the Youth’s Role in the EDSA People Power Revolution.

Mulat Educational Discussion Series was conducted via Zoom meeting and Facebook Live from February 21 to 23, 2022. The program moderator, Ms. Johnric Delos Reyes started the first day of the program with the singing of the National Anthem and Invocation, followed by the opening remarks from the PUPQC-SSC President Ms. Jennylyn Balaoro.

On the first day of the event, the first Speaker, Hon. Jandeil Roperos talked about Neoliberal Education Amidst the Pandemic. After every speaker for the whole event in three days, question and answer, awarding of certificate of recognition and photo opportunity was done by the technical team. Finishing off the day one of the webinar with the singing of the PUP Hymn.

The second day of the discussion series was commenced by a prayer for invocation followed by the PUPQC-SSC President Ms. Jennylyn Balaoro giving insights and recap the day one. The second speaker Ms. Lilac Fameronag discussed the Anatomy of Philippine Politics followed by open forum and awarding of certificate of recognition. The second day was concluded with photo opportunity and by the singing of the PUP Hymn.

The last day of the discussion series was commenced by a prayer for invocation followed by the PUPQC-SSC President Ms. Jennylyn Balaoro giving insights and recap the day two. The second speaker Cong. Sarah Elago discussed her topic entitled The Youth to Action: Contextualizing the Youth’s Role in EDSA People Power Revolution. After her talk, open forum, awarding of certificate of recognition and photo opportunity was done by the technical team. Before moving on to the next part of the event, PUPQC Urban Anatomy prepared a special performance as a refresher. Ms. Kristine Casaños and Ms. Rica Mae Noprada was invited to be the panel of reactors for the event. To conclude the three-day event, Sen. Leila de Lima delivered an inspirational message for the 36th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. Followed by the closing remarks from the Event Head, Ms. Jocy Zambrona.
